And just think that was open water yesterday at the boat launch, the search and rescue guy's were doing their ice rescue training there yesterday and breaking the ice up.Patches reported 4 inches of good clear ice at the mouth of the Nonquon around 9 this morning, on HCS .. with pic's
But always remember 'If you don't know don't go"
MN Department Of Natural Resources Ice thickness chart
Always keep in mind, if you don't know the lake don't go,
as ice thickness varies greatly in different parts of the lake.

about 4 inches.... boat launch and parking area off water st..
looks like 4 inches across... shore line... 10 feet out.. no cracking..
wierd... -10 to -12 for 24 hrs.. no growth...
i guess she waiting for -20

If you where checking at the boat launch and got 4 inches then there has been growth, since the Fire Rescue boys had that Ice all broke up doing water rescue training not that long ago...

I saw sleds go by the house on Saturday and Sunday (I'm on the island on Aldred) - only a few though. They were close to shore. I haven't been out yet - sled and engine are still taking up two spaces in the garage. Hopefully this week they will merge. Maybe I'll run out tonight and punch a hole in the ice and let you guys know tomorrow.

Fools ....... still way to early for any constant growth out there, I'll bet if pop two holes 500 ft apart from each other you'll get much different readings in thickness.

I bet they'll be out full force this weekend...
I've been home too late the last couple nights to wonder out to check the ice. My guess right now is if you stick close to shore you are likely OK...IF you know the lake, and where it gets a bit mushy at times. I certainly wouldn't wander out too far, but if mine was running I wouldn't hesitate to run the shore in front of the house a bit.
Engine and sled have merged, few more connections to make and hold on tight!
